FDI Training Workshop for Invest Alberta

Project Summary

In September 2023, ResearchFDI conducted a specialized training seminar for the Invest Alberta Business Development team. Led by Executive VP Rob Creamer and VP of Business Development Amber Hunter, the workshop was designed to enhance the team’s capabilities in investor prospecting, outreach, and lead nurturing. Invest Alberta is a crown corporation of the Government of Alberta, tasked with promoting the province as a premier investment destination. Their goal is to attract high-value, high-impact investments to Alberta, Canada, and this training aimed to strengthen their efforts in achieving this mission.

ResearchFDI was invited to develop a custom training program focused on the full cycle of investment attraction, with an emphasis on the latest trends in lead generation and outreach.

Activities & Results

The training seminar took place over a day and a half, combining tailored content review, group exercises, and collaborative discussions. The sessions were designed to engage participants actively, encouraging them to apply the insights shared through practical exercises and interactive learning.

The content was structured to cover the complete investment attraction cycle, from research and outreach to meetings, follow-up, and aftercare. Specific topics included:

  • Research: Techniques for conducting in-depth research to identify and qualify potential investors.
  • Outreach: Best practices for initiating contact with prospects through phone and email.
  • Lead Nurturing: Strategies for maintaining and building relationships with leads over time to convert them into long-term investments.

The training involved active participation from the entire Invest Alberta Business Development team, as well as the marketing team. Senior leadership also attended to observe the session and gain insights into the latest approaches in investment attraction.
