Project Summary

The Saxony Economic Development Corporation sought out the expert advice of ResearchFDI understand how to best differentiate the region’s market image in the highly competitive global automotive and microelectronics industries to attract further foreign direct investment. ResearchFDI conducted in-depth research to identify the key competitive advantages and the most relevant sector specific selling points of the region and provided Saxony with investor-ready marketing materials. This case study showcases the dynamic strategies employed by ResearchFDI, highlighting the tangible results of ResearchFDI’s creative services.

Activities: 

In the pursuit of enhancing the region’s market image and attracting investment in the automotive and microelectronics industries, ResearchFDI utilized a comprehensive strategy, designed to lay the groundwork for informed decisions and strategic actions. This strategic approach encompassed a series of activities, each strategically designed to enhance our understanding and capitalize on external opportunities. 

  • Review of Existing Materials: ResearchFDI began by undertaking a comprehensive review of all relevant available data, information, and reports such as sector reports, marketing initiatives and labor market data etc. for the region. In doing this, the team aimed to build upon our knowledge of the region to better inform our subsequent phases.  
  • Regional Analysis: To better understand how to position the region in the global automotive and microelectronics market, ResearchFDI conducted our own research into the demographics, resource base, economy, and utility provision capacity for the area. This regional analysis validated the target sectors and their respective sub-sectors and provided additional insights into their prioritization for the region. 
  • Opportunity Identification: ResearchFDI conducted in-depth market research to identify external opportunities for investment attraction. These opportunities were ranked and prioritized based on their potential to diversify the economy and attract investments, with focus being placed on sub-sectors that showed continued strong performance and potential for significant growth. 
  • Aligning value propositions to opportunities: Development: Based on the sectors and subsectors identified as opportunities, ResearchFDI assessed the region utilizing an investor-centric and site selector lens, identifying the key competitive advantages and the most relevant sector specific selling points of the region. 
  • Sector Profiles: ResearchFDI developed sector specific profiles, providing the region with a critical and comprehensive overview content for each of the identified sectors.  
  • Marketing Material Development: Taking into consideration the insights provided by the previous activities, ResearchFDI created investor-ready marketing materials, highlighting the business development opportunities of the region. 

  Deliverables: 

  • Summary of Findings Report: ResearchFDI provided Saxony with a summary report of our multi-pronged research and the findings of each phase. This report included detailed descriptions of our methodology, findings, and recommendations for the region.   
  • Investor-Ready Marketing Materials: ResearchFDI designed and created a concise industry-specific FDI Investor Prospectus that could be given to perspective companies. This was designed utilizing the findings of the research conducted by the ResearchFDI team to ensure it best highlighted the key competitive advantages and the most relevant sector specific selling points of the Saxony region.
